BassBear

An interactive stage prop that uses projection mapping technology to react to audio events.

BassBear is an interactive stage prop designed for use at high profile live music events. It uses projection mapping technology to incorporate real time video responses to audio events from the bass player. The higher the dynamics, or loudness of the note, the more dramatic the visual effects are on the bear. As a bass player myself, this prop is meant to bring attention to an often overlooked member of the band in a unique way.

The bear was 3D printed at Belmont University, and is a 1/10 scale model of a bear statue that is found elsewhere on campus. MadMapper software was used to map projections onto the surface, and to program the visual responses to peaks in the audio signal.  This project strengthened my skills in prototyping and mockup design, and responsive human interaction.
